Andrew Byron is an actor who has spent most of his career playing Russians. They're invariably the 'bad guys' and usually end up dead (He was shot in the head in 'Killing Eve' and vaporised in 'Doctor Who'). But this story is about a Russian you don't see on your screens: Innokenty Afanasievich is honest, decent and simple. He is a dreamer, seeking his fortune in the West. "I am going to the land of the Shakespeare and the Bananarama". But the past that he is so desperate to leave behind is now threatening to catch up with him.
